2. The Fine Arts Museum of Ho Chi Minh City

The Fine Arts Museum is one of the best places to visit in Ho Chi Minh City. The museum’s impressive architecture is as much a draw as the paintings and sculptures for which it is known.

Designed by the French architect Rivera, it was constructed in 1934 and features a style that blends elements from both Asian and European architecture.

Once the home of Hua Bon Hoa, a Chinese merchant and one of Saigon’s wealthiest and most well-known citizens, the museum is now open to the public. The Majestic Hotel and the Tu Du Hospital were just two of the numerous famous buildings he owned.

Once known as “The House for Displaying War Crimes of American Imperialism and the Puppet Government” the museum’s name was changed in 1993 following a series of restorations and expansions. The museum first opened to the public in 1975.

Images of the My Lai massacre, the use of Agent Orange and other nerve agents, phosphorous bombs, and other atrocities are included. The museum’s exhibits are disturbing and unsettling, so be ready for that before you go.

4. The Palace of Reunification

  • Address: 135 Nam Kỳ Khởi Nghĩa, Bến Thành Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
  • Opening hours: 7.30am–11.00am and 1.00pm–4.00pm daily.
  • Ticket price: 40,000 VND per person. 

During the Vietnam War, the President of South Vietnam lived and worked at Reunification Palace, also known as Independence Palace.

The palace served as both a symbol of victory at the end of the Vietnam War and a memorial to the many presidents who presided over Vietnam. Ngo Dinh Diem was the country’s first president to stay in this palace.

The F5E fighter plane that dropped its bombs on the palace on April 8, 1975, and tank no. 843 that led the final assault through the palace gate at 11.30 a.m. on April 30, 1975, are both on display now that the palace has been turned into a museum.
